This week all grade 1/2s will be learning about ordinal numbers.
Ordinal numbers are used to designate the position (or order) of objects. While the words for the first, second, third and fifth ordinals differ from their numerical equivalent, the remainder of ordinals simply add the “th” ending to the original number word (fourth, sixth, seventh, thirteenth, etc.).
Knowing the ordinal numbers helps a child understand and communicate positions or placements of people or things. With just a little practice, ordinals will become an automatic part of your child’s vocabulary.
